Periodontics        Periodontal Disease

Periodontics is the area of dentistry that deals with the gums and supporting bones and structures around your teeth. Much of this area of dentistry relates to the treatment of periodontal disease, including gingivitis. Most periodontal disease is preventable with good oral hygiene at home including a daily regiment of brushing, flossing, and mouthwash. Our periodontist provides treatment of periodontal disease from ginigivitis to more advanced periodontal disease. To read more about periodontal disease and its causes, symptoms and treatment, please go to our Periodontal Disease page.

Our periodontal services are available for treatment of periodontal disease as well as cosmetic solutions to correct the following:

Gummy Smile or Uneven Gum Line
If you feel like your smile is too gummy or your gums cover too much of some teeth but not others, we can correct those issues with crown lengthening. Excessive gum tissue is removed to expose more of the crown of the tooth. Your gumline is sculpted to give your new smile the right look.

Long Teeth/Exposed Roots
Long teeth and exposed roots can make you look older than you are. Gum recession can come from a variety of stimuli including periodontal disease. Soft tissue grafts and other root covering procedures can cover these exposed roots, reduce further recession, and protect teeth roots from decay.

Missing Teeth
Teeth can be lost for a variety of reasons due to periodontal disease, injury, or other reasons. Dental Implants can provide a solution and make your smile whole again. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Unlike dentures, implants are a permanent solution, you need not remove them for cleaning or any other reason. They function as a replacement tooth. Because they are so natural looking and feeling, you can feel confident about your teeth and how they function. With diligent maintenance, implants can last a lifetime.

At the Family Dental Center, we use some of the most cutting edge dental technology in the implants we create including the use of IMTEC Mini Dental Implants and CEREC One-visit dentistry. These technologies in particular help our dentists create better implants as well as cut down on the time you spend in our office.
